An Online Community of Writers

Writing can be a lonely activity when you don't have a community behind you. And when the community is online, it can survive anything that nature can throw at it... including a pandemic. And all of you are invited to join.

Canterbury Writers is the brain child of Judy L Mohr and Em Lowe (writing as Emmy-Lou James). It started as a mission to create a hub of information for writers in their local regions. Since its inception (in 2019), the organization has evolved and grown, and it continues to evolve today. But no matter where Canterbury Writers goes in the future, the mission will remain the same.

To help writers connect with other writers.

Come and join our online Discord community for accountability and writing sprints… and occasional chats about writing, editing, and the publishing industry. While the group is connected to the events and activities of those in Christchurch, New Zealand and the greater Canterbury region, this particular online community is open to all from every corner of the world.

With dedicated forum threads for weekly check-ins and a separate sprint-wars channel, be part of a community that will hopefully keep you motivated towards achieving your writing career goals. And it's FREE to join.

You will need an active Discord account to join this community, but you do not need Discord installed on your computer. The web browser version works well to access all the features of the group. And if you are new to Discord, this community is open and welcoming. Activity is light, so you will have the support you need to learn how to use the Discord platform.

Be advised that you will need a Discord account that is more than 5 minutes old. (This is a deliberate setting choice to avoid issues with those new to Discord struggling to get into the server.)
